Folio is the studio of São Paulo–born architect Camila Albuquerque.
The naming process began with the family name. According to the Dicionário de Nomes Próprios, "Albuquerque is a surname of Portuguese origin, derived from the Latin terms 'albus', meaning white, and 'quercus', oak.'"
The oak produces wood that is hard yet pliable, long prized in carpentry. Its canopy shelters the famous, welcoming "shade of the oak." The only three oaks in the city of São Paulo stand in Parque da Luz, and it is their trunks that lend their texture as a graphic element.
In its pursuit of simplicity, the naming looks to the essential, arriving at the leaf — folio in Esperanto. The leaf, in turn, simple in appearance, holds a complex structure that is perfect for forming the whole.
The Folio Arquitetura brand is personal yet open, feminine and inclusive, minimalist yet strong. It draws on the simple, clean, refined design references of Scandinavia, then blends with and is enriched by local, natural, familiar elements.
